The Horseshoe Curve for Train Simulator 2012 recreates not only the famous curve, but also the 45-mile stretch from Altoona to Johnstown as it appeared in the mid-1950s. It offers the spectacle for railroad engineers – and lucky passengers – of being able to watch the rear of their train making its way along one side of the curve as the locomotives lead the train up the other side, the middle of the train running around the tight 637-foot radius curve at the top of the lake. There are over 70 routes that you can travel on that allow you to see many parts of the world. The Horseshoe Curve is situated near the town of Altoona in Pennsylvania and has echoed to the thunder of heavy freight trains ever since its completion in 1854. There are a few missions that you can complete, such as delivering products to a destination within a certain time frame. You can change the controls to better suit how you feel with the keyboard. You do have to learn the controls of the game as they are how you maneuver and stop the train on the tracks.
Some of the trains that you can choose from are older, giving you an idea of what it was like to ride the rails decades ago while many are newer models that have a bit more speed. It might be snowing one minute or raining the next. When you're on the tracks, you will see the beautiful scenery as it slowly goes by and see the weather change as well. However, you can choose the kind of train you want from the dozen or so that are available. There aren't really any menus in the game as there aren't a lot of design options. Sounds in the game are realistic, giving you an idea as to what you might hear if you were operating a train on the tracks. The graphics of the trains bring you into the hub of what it takes to operate each vehicle. This is one of the better simulation games available. You can take to the rails by operating one of many trains available in this simulation game.
